HeartSmart, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Richard Perse, II to
provide emergency training to schools, childcare centers,
businesses, and individuals using “specialized” programs he
develops. Mr. Perse was a fire/medic with West Metro Fire
Department in Lakewood, Co. prior to forming the company.

Since 1980, he has been a
Red Cross CPR/First Aid instructor, American Heart Association
Instructor Trainer, Medic First Aid instructor and currently
HeartSmart is an educational center for the Emergency Care and
Safety Institute (ECSI) which is an internationally renowned
organization that provides training to meet regulatory
requirements for OSHA, JCAHO, and state offices of EMS and
Health. |
Rich is a pioneer in public
access defibrillation (PAD) programs and has been an AED
implementation specialist for Philips Medical since 1997. He has
helped numerous agencies such as the US Olympic Committee,
CU-Boulder, CSU athletic department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado
State courts, SunCor Energy and the City of Boulder put in their
programs.

We specialize in developing
custom programs that are relevant to your application and work
environment. For example, HeartSmart is partnering with Safety One
International in designing a CPR/AED/First Aid course for tower
climbers in the utility and telecommunication industries.

Nancy Near-Perse, BSN, MSN acts
as a technical consultant for program development and Dr. Debra
Gradick , the head of Avista Hospital ER, is our medical director
for our AED programs.
